My Carnival has so far turned out to be a rather gloriously well paced event. Friday night we met up with the inscrutable Wesley Wes, his friend Deep from NYC plus the usual suspects including an over-the-top wasted Jude. We had some cocktails then moved the party down to Canal St. where we caught the neon-drenched wonders of Hermes followed by the razor sharp satire of Krewe D'Etat. As always they brilliantly skewed everyone on both sides of the political fence at the local, state and national levels.
When Krewe D'Etat finished rolling we went down to the Howlin' Wolf and caught a free show by the Rebirth Brass Band. As I was shaking my thing to their hot version of "Mardi Gras Mambo" I had my first real feeling of getting lost in Carnival reverie. I felt uplifted and gave personal thanks for being born and afforded to stay in New Orleans.
Saturday Shanna and I got up early and started cooking and getting the place ready for our annual Endymion House Party. We had about 40 people show up throughout the day and by the time the parade rolled we were all in a heightened state of Carnival inebriation. As the parade started to wind down we headed back to the house where an impromptu dance party took place, spurred on by the Ladies' exuberance. We were supposed to go downtown afterwards but for the first time in many years I was too tired and maybe a little too wasted to make it.
Yesterday we all went down to the Fallon compound in the Marigny and got our props and costumes together for tomorrow's big march. Everyone's costumes are coming together and all of our props are looking great. I can't wait.
Today I'm putting the finishing touches on my New Suit. After Shanna gets off work we're going to meet our hearties downtown for some serious mingling and hijinks. The rumbling in my gut tells me that I won't be able to stay out too late because my anticipation of Mardi Gras is just too high this year.

PLEASE post some pics.
I went to the usual Northshore parades.
I also went to Endymion on Saturday night. It's been years since I been to a New Orleans parade. I caught it at the very beginning at City Park. There were some nice floats. I liked the river boat float and the train. It amazed me how women are still flabbergasted by the sight of Gene Simmons.
I spent Mardi Gras with the family at the "BIG" Downtown Covington parade.
Maybe next year, I can tag along at a NOLA parade with you and the partying crew.
Happy Mardi Gras!!
