Life is a constantly evolving process that is informed by exterior and interior forces which must be navigated via a relentless procession of decisions. If you let things go you end up with a chaotic mess on your hands. I’ve been there many, many times so far in my life.
Over the past few years I’ve improved my game by leaps and bounds through planning, organization, hard work and a more careful and moderate attitude towards all things. However, I'm still a failure in a number of areas and could probably improve greatly in others that I’m mediocre in. Here’s a list of some modifications I’d like to make in order to improve my life.
In the short:
Finish My Website – I need to have a finished website that clearly conveys the breadth of my professional experience through my CV, copy samples and portfolio. I know I’m always talking about how this is going to get done one of these days but I’ve been putting in serious time on this project lately. After many designs and redesigns I’ve finally settled on a simple but effective layout. All I have left to do is figure out what CMS I’m going to use and then populate said content with the quickness.
Quit Smoking – I am doing the best I’ve ever done with my quitting strategy. I’m only smoking on weekends and only then when I’m socializing and libations are involved, which means hardly ever. (For instance I only smoked 3 cigarettes in total this weekend)
Lose Weight & Get in Shape:
- Maintain a healthy and nutritional diet – Eat three square meals per day starting with fiber, eat snacks of fruit or yogurt or fiber between meals, avoid white foods, including refined sugar, drink less alcohol (the only easy part for me).
- Drink More Water!
- Commute by bike to work at least two days per week.
- Go to the Gym at least 4 times per week for at least 30 minutes.
- Ride the bike for 2+ hours on Saturdays & Sundays
In the long:
Go back to school – I’m working on a plan to attend Tulane UC in order to finally finish my degree. It could be as soon as this Fall and as late as next Spring. Either way I’m really doing it this time.
Get a hold of my debt – I was an irresponsible lout in my early to mid 20’s and it’s really come back to haunt me. I’m working diligently towards improving my credit score but it’s going to take time to heal some bad decisions I made as a youngster.
That’s it. The combination of these changes and the new way that I am working thanks to Getting Things Done and overall organizational differences should have a profound impact on the way I live my life. I’m really ready to take my productivity and well-being to the next level.
Bravo! I'm on a similar mission! I wish you good luck with your goals

5. Ride the bike for 2+ hours on Saturdays & Sundays
there's plenty of people who will ride with you, at whatever speed or distance.
